The Learning Systems Institute relies on an international partnership network that engages experts in education, psychology and information technology to conduct research aimed at improving learning, instruction and performance.

External Partners

  • Educational Technology Expertise Centre (OTEC) at the Open University of the Netherlands, Heerlen, Netherlands
    OTEC is comprised of many world-renowned scholars in the areas of training and instruction of complex cognitive skills and cognitive load. Dr. Jeroen van Merriënboer, the director of OTEC, is the author of the 4C/ID model specifically developed for this purpose. In collaboration with his colleagues, Dr. Fred Paas, Dr. Els Boshuizen , and Dr. Marcel de Croock, Dr. van Merriënboer continues to be a partner with number of LSI’s research groups and on several projects and research efforts.   • Center for Life Long Learning, Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI), Seoul, Korea
    This partnership with the Center for Life Long Learning is actively working on cultural and academic exchanges and cooperation related to the Study of Adult Learning Innovation Process in the Learning Cities and Regions. This partnership includes: the active participation of collaborative research projects, the cooperation of joint activities such as conferences, seminars for the project, the exchange of researchers through short-term workshops, and the exchange of publications and other materials of common interest. Dr. Tae-Jun Kim, Associate Research Fellow is the coordinating partner at KEDI.

  • National Whole-Faculty Study Groups Center, Augusta, Georgia
    The mission of the Center is to ensure student achievement through the authentic application of the Whole-Faculty Study Group System in schools worldwide. The Director of the Center is Carlene Murphy, who founded and leads the Whole-Faculty Study Groups movement for school improvement and student performance enhancement. This partnership includes the active participation of collaborative research projects and cooperation on joint activities such as national conferences, seminars, workshops, consultations, professional presentations, and publications such as articles and books.

  • Laboratory for Cognitive Informatics & Training Research, at the Center for Inter University on Tele-Learning, (LICEF-CIRTA) Montreal, Quebec, Canada
    The LICEF-CIRTA partnership is involved with research and development in the area of distance learning tools and technologies.

  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Learning Technology Technical Committee, Washington, D.C.
    The IEEE Learning Technology Technical Committee partnership is involved with the articulation of competency-based standards for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education in educational technology.

  • International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction, State College, Pennsylvania
    The IBSTPI partnership involves collaborating in the development of standards and competencies for instructors, online learners and facilitators, program evaluators and training managers.

  • International Society for Performance Improvement, Washington, D.C.
    The ISPI partnership involves the publication of the journal Performance Improvement Quarterly.
  • Association for Educational Communications and Technology, Bloomington, Indiana
    AECT in conjunction with LSI provides editorial assistance and support for the acclaimed AECT journal Educational Technology Research and Development.

  • Learning Strategies Consortium, Naval Education and Training Command, Pensacola, Florida
    The LSC is a virtual consortium of professionals in the learning arena, from government, industry, academia and non-profit. Our desire is to share our successes, information about published works and lessons learned as well as to collaborate on improving learning opportunities.

    LSI is one of the key partners on the LSC Consortium’s Executive Steering Committee. The Executive Steering Committee is made up of distinguished leaders from all areas of government, industry, and academia. Through highlevel, active involvement, the Executive Steering Committee has evolved into a recognized role model with innovative learning strategies and technologies.
