The Human Performance Lab

innovation park
The CEPR's Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) is a research laboratory designed for the specific purposes of examining expert and human real-world performance in an objective manner. The HPL contains state-of-the-art equipment that can be used to capture and measure performance, as well as performance improvement during learning, in real-world and simulated contexts. Large screen video displays and simulation technology are employed to create representative task domains, while sophisticated process measures of behavior, such as eye movement recording, ECG, heart-rate, galvanic skin response, respiration, three dimensional movement analysis, and verbal reports are used to help determine the mechanisms underlying expert performance and learning. High-speed video analysis also enables performance to be captured and evaluated in dynamic, real-world performance settings out in the real-world.

Current research interests focus on the structure and acquisition of skilled performance in clinical, human factors and sport settings and involve work with expert participants and with clinical and aged populations. HPL was established in 2004 through Congressional funds administered by the Office of Naval Research.

The Human Performance Laboratory is part of the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University.
