Funding For Research Projects Funding received to date: MURMSI received federal funding in FY 03, 04 and 05.  The award for FY 05 has been extended an additional year to August 2, 2007. Continuation funding was requested for FY 06 and FY 07, however, no earmarks were appropriated by Congress in those years.

RFP process: Over half of funding is competitively awarded for K-12 research projects in reading, mathematics, science, and/or educational leadership. Both faculty and graduate students at state universities in Florida are eligible to apply. Proposals must address one or more research topics on the MURMSI research agenda. Projects must be conducted in Florida and involve collaboration with one or more K-12 partners (districts, schools, teachers). Preference is given to proposals that include at-risk students defined by socioeconomic status or other conditions. Randomized experimental designs, where appropriate and feasible, are strongly encouraged. Awards are based on the recommendations of a review committee consisting of faculty from state universities in Florida.

Projects funded to date: During the first three years of the MURMSI project, a total of $2.1 million (over 50% of the cumulative grant award amount) was competitively awarded via an RFP for research subcontracts at 7 of Florida’s 11 state universities. Two additional research projects totaling $350,000 per year were funded at the FSU Learning Systems Institute.

a total of $1,644,587 was awarded for 16 projects at seven state universities, including 11 faculty projects up to $160,000 each and 5 graduate student projects at $3,000 each. Click here for a complete list by state university.

Future RFPs: Below is the RFP that was issued for Year 3 (2005-06) research subcontracts. Additional RFPs will be issued depending on the availability of future funding.

Distribution of RFPs: MURMSI RFPs are posted on this website and distributed by email to Deans of Colleges of Education and Arts & Sciences at state universities in Florida, members of the MURSMI Work Group, principal investigators of prior proposals, and any other interested parties. If you wish to be added to the email distribution list, please contact Christine Johnson, MURMSI Project Manager, cejohnso@mailer.fsu.edu
