FCR-STEM's mission is to help the State of Florida improve K-12 teaching and learning and prepare students for higher education and STEM careers in the 21st Century. Located in Tallahassee, FL, the center is jointly operated by the FSU College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Education and the Learning Systems Institute in the Office of the Provost. The Center’s Director is Dr. Harold Kroto, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and ardent advocate of K-12 science education worldwide.
Assistant in Research - a faculty position
Work under the guidance of Dr. Carol Connor who is conducting research on early science and literacy instruction. Specifically, this project is supported by the Florida Department of Education as part of the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at FSU.

Salary: 35,000-negotiable
Proposed Start Date: July 15, 2008
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization, or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years related professional experience. Consistent with university guidelines, qualifying experience and/or training may substitute for the degree requirement for some positions assigned to this class. Additional education and experience as required by position.
REQUIREMENTS: Coursework in Education (preferred), Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or other related field. Familiarity with elementary classroom instruction, standardized assessments, assessment administration, and research methods. Documented experience working with elementary students and teachers and knowledge of science-specific classroom activities. Must have dependable transportation.
PREFERRED SKILLS: Master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or other related field. Interpersonal and organizational skills with strong decision-making abilities. Should be self-directed, motivated, and successful at meeting immediate deadlines. Excellent written and verbal skills, interpersonal skills, ability to generate research questions, and successful at working in team environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary task will be to assist in the development and implementation of the project’s science and literacy instruction curriculum. In addition, assist in the development of project’s instructional software and assist teachers in their implementation of the project’s software and recommended classroom practices. Successful candidate will work closely with research staff and will also assist in the administration of assessments, videotaping in classrooms, data entry, and additional research-related duties as required.
