NAEP Mathematics Student Achievement at Proficient Level by Race and Ethnicity (U.S. vs. FL), Grade 4
In 2007, a greater percent of Florida’s fourth grade White and Hispanic students scored at the Proficient level than White and Hispanic students nationally in NAEP* mathematics. Specifically, fourth grade White students lead their national counterparts by 3 percent, while Florida Hispanics lead their national counterparts by 11 percent. Fourth grade Black students in Florida are performing equal to their national counterparts.
*NAEP 2007 mathematics achievement was scored on a scale of 0 to 300 for fourth graders. Students scoring 213 and lower were considered achieving below basic understanding in science, 214-248 had Basic level of achievement, those scoring 249-281 were Proficient, and Advanced students scored 282 or greater.
