
Florida’s NAEP Mathematics Student Achievement by Level, Grade 8
Eighth grade Florida students increased at all levels of achievement in NAEP* mathematics from 1992 to 2007. Specifically, Basic level achievement increased by 19 percent, achievement at the Proficient level increased by 12 percent, and Advanced achievement increased by 4 percent. The largest percentage of eighth graders in Florida performed at the Basic level on NAEP mathematics.
*NAEP mathematics achievement was scored on a scale of 0 to 300 for eighth graders. Students scoring 261 and lower were considered achieving below basic understanding in science, 262-298 had Basic level of achievement, those scoring 299-332 were Proficient, and Advanced students scored 333 or greater.
